When you're coming from this far, you want to make sure that you're not going to miss anything, right ?
You've heard of Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Camden Market, the London Eye, Westminster...
All of those monuments/places can be visited, and for some you'd be better of planing the visit well in advance and booking your tickets online in order to beat the queues.

Depending on the length of your visit, you'll have to make a choice. Ask yourself what your tastes are, if you'd rather browse a typical market or visit a church, go up on the London Eye (big wheel thing on the Thames) to see London from above or just walk arround freely.
A great way to get a taste of London is to buy a one day travel card and jump on those big red buses and let yourself be driven arround; soaking in the sights, the town, the streets.
