Now there is a place where you HAVE to go, not like the cinema: the english pub, the great british institution !
The pub is central in the englishmans life. After work, everybody meets at the pub, forgetting who's the boss and who's the employee, it is all about forgetting the rain, having a good time and forgetting the rain, using a trick called alcohol...
Some pubs are owned by breweries, and very few remain independant. You must go and sample the lagers, stouts, real ales and don't forget that everybody gets their round in an orderly way.
Don't go paying for your own drink straight when you arrive, but instead go and ask your friends / collegues if they would like another drink.
If you end up buying everybody a pint, don't worry because everybody will buy you a pint...
Some pubs serve food, but not always in the evenings. Usually the food served in pubs is ok, you'll find delicacies such as jacket potatoes, pies, onion rings, chicken things and chips. An easy way to get a nice and not too expensive lunch.
Families with children are welcomed / allowed in some pubs. It is usually advertised. Advisable to ask inside first.

Some pubs have regular live bands performing in the evenings. Usually of a good standard, live music in pubs is a typical thing not to be missed in London.
But enough about drinking in pubs, London is also the pop music capital of the world, everyday stars are born (and die) in London. Make sure you check out what's on before you come, you cannot afford to miss some of the best artists and concerts in the world ! The Musicals.
A typical west-end entertainement show, the world of the musicals is dominated by the outstanding works of Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Singing, dancing and acting, it's all in a musical.
